WELLS - BUSINESSES FOLDER 7 3 prints of construction of bridge over Boston & Maine railroad tracks on Sanford Road in Wells, taken Sept. 18, 1936 by Mary Carpenter Kelley. Project cost $58,000 and employed 20-40 men on relief. W.P.G.H. grade crossing eliminating a dangerous crossing where at least nine had been killed by car/train accidents. Possibly a WPA project. Notable back inscriptions.

WELLS - BUSINESSES FOLDER 9 Copy print aerial view of pink granite quarry on Quarry Road in Wells in summer 1957. Accompanied by a detailed description, noting that most of the cut blocks in the storage yard (upper left) were used in the 1957 construction of Seagram Plaza in New York City, and identifying the roughly square uncut section to the right of the yard (towards the bottom of the side farthest from camera) as cut in December 1957 for use in the 1958 WWII and Korea additions to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia. Murray's Restaurant and Cabins
WELLS - BUSINESSES FOLDER 15 Murray's Restaurant and and Cabins, located on the west side of Route 1, south of the Meetinghouse. The restaurant barn was replaced by a motel; the house was turned into Maxmillian Restaurant and then torn down when replaced by CVS. Cabins out back were sold individually. Photographed by Edward Hipple and purchased from his estate in 1994. [Edit Jan. 2024: Final decimal added to Object ID.]
Bald Hill Road Quarry
Framed aerial view of the Bald Hill Road quarry in Wells.
